Why People Say "I'm Fine."

What a world this is... we walk around with dopey smiles on our faces (or not) greeting most everyone we meet with a "Hello! How are you?"

And the response is inevitably, "I'm fine."

Would you like to know why the answer to this question is "I'm fine"?

I'll tell you. Because nobody wants to tell you how they really feel because they know that YOU DON'T CARE.

The same reason why the answer to "What's wrong?" is "Nothing."

Silly girl. "How are you?" doesn't mean someone wants to know how you are doing. It is simply a meaningless greeting, like "Hello." It is a little ritual. If they really want to know, they will say "Really, how are you?" and their voice inflection and facial expression will indicate that they care. It is like guys slapping each other on the butt in a football game -- it doesn't really mean a thing.

There is someone who cares. He sleeps in the bed beside you even if he makes you angry on occasion. Don't forget that.
