Polkadot Skies

When The Dragon woke up this morning, I asked her the usual question:

Mommy: Did you use the potty?
Dragon: Yes, before the sky was blue.
Mommy: Oh! What color was the sky?
Dragon: It was black.
Mommy: Not green?
Dragon: No.
Mommy: Yellow?
Dragon: No.
Mommy: Purple?
Dragon: No.
Mommy: Brown?
Dragon: No.
Mommy: Polka-dotted?
Dragon: No.
Mommy: Mommy is so silly! You're right... the sky is never polka dotted!
Dragon: Yes it is. When it's black and you can see the stars.

I stand corrected.

Just Another Day Of Multi-tasking

I am currently watching '24' as I type this. Nothing special for a lot of you, but a rather big deal for me as usually the computer is in one room and the television is in another. But The King is sharing his laptop with me, so now I can multitask! Yay!

Tonight I dragged the entire family out into the very cold, extremely polluted air for over an hour while we stood in line to get free Disney On Ice tickets. Mission accomplished, and we will be partyin' with Mickey and the gang on March 14. The girls are excited, but I think they were ready to revolt by the time we were able to go home.

I made it onto 'the wall' as I mentioned yesterday. I think there's still a fair amount of room if you haven't gotten your name in yet.

I didn't get as much done around the house today as I wanted too, but I did manage to fill up another garbage bag of stuff though, so I guess I can't complain.

The Princess managed to wake herself up this morning and was dressed and eating breakfast by the time I forced myself out of bed. I think she was determined to ride the bus this morning. That was the plan anyway, but she really loves the bus so I guess she wanted to make sure that it happened.

The Dragon is working really hard to learn all of her ABC's by sight. I let her have a mini marshmallow for every 6 that she gets right. She is determined! I wonder why. :) She is my musical kid - today I caught her singing a song from 'Swan Lake' and no, she doesn't know it because of the Barbie movie. She loves music -- even classical music. This is a good thing.

Not much else to say, unfortunately. But you should know that hot chocolate from 7-11 is really delicious. Starbucks is good too, but more expensive and I don't have one nearby.

See you tomorrow!

The Great Wall...

...of 2000 Bloggers.

This is very cool, and hopefully I will make the cut (meaning I was one of the first 2000 people to respond) and will be added to this blog.

Today I did some more decluttering and organizing. I also sluffed church. Oops. I also went to Costco. More oopses... you know the whole commandment about keeping the Sabbath Day holy. Tomorrow is a whole new day with no mistakes in it. (Just wait til' I get to it!)

We are going to watch Ice Age: The Meltdown tonight as a family. I am excited for a little bit of family time... even if all we do is snuggle together on the couch as one large mashed couch potato family.

Dinner is waiting for me (chicken, mashed potatoes and greenbeans), so I must go now.

Have a good night everybody!

Don't Blame Me...

...The King told me to do it.

A few days ago, I was in pain. Something was going on with my behind (butt, ass, bottom, rear end, or whatever else you would like to call it). It hurt. I wasn't sure why. Upon further investigation with the help of a mirror, I found a rather large, very red, oozing spot. Yuck. I'm not sure how it got there, why it got there, or what it's doing, and I don't really care, but I would like it gone.

The King helped me cover it with neosporin and a bandage, and it is feeling a little bit better... but it still hurts.

And tonight he asked why I haven't blogged about it. I asked if I should include a picture. He thought that would be amusing.

I think it would be TMI (too much info), so I'm going to spare you the visual details.

It's The End Of The World As We Know It...

... and I feel fine.

The King is probably worried about me. Several times this week he has come home from work to find a patch of carpet or floor or counter space that had never been seen before. Well, not since we moved in anyway.

I think I'm bored. I'm sure The King isn't complaining. But he is probably wondering how long it is going to last.

Frankly, I wonder about that too.

(Better check my temperature. This is day four of posting continuously!)

Today I was supposed to go grocery shopping. My Mom was having major computer problems and was practically in tears, so instead I spent the morning adjusting things. There wasn't anything wrong with the computer, they were PBK (person behind keyboard) errors. All is well now, but I only did about half of my grocery shopping due to time constraints.

Right now The Dragon is passed out on the couch, and The Princess is running around the house with her friend. They are having a good old time. My computer seems to be suffering from quite a bit of lag, so I think I am going to cut this short.

It Is Cold.

"It is cold. See the snow. See the snow come down."

I am positive this is from some children's book that I have read long long ago, but nothing that we currently own. It is not snowing at the moment, but the ground is covered in snow, and it IS cold.

It is even colder in our unfinished basement which is where my computer is. My fingers are beginning to grow icicles... ok, maybe not, but they are frozen and stiff and it hurts to type. To quote the great Dubby... "I don't like this game."

The Dragon is upstairs watching television. Her favorite past time. I won't let her watch it all morning (in fact, she usually turns it off by herself), but I kind-of enjoy this babysitter. I know, I know... it's a bad idea! I take some small comfort in the fact that she usually doesn't watch any TV on Tuesdays or Thursdays.

I am in the process of signing The Dragon up for preschool again next year. She can continue at the same preschool she is currently at, or I can relocate her to a preschool that is closer to our home. Since the Pre-K program is 4 days a week rather than the current 2-days, a closer location is quite a draw. However, I am not yet convinced that the closer school is the better choice. The administration appears to suffer from idiocy, and while the teachers are not the same people I can't help but wonder how much the administration affects them. An example of the idiocy would be the "fair" I went to last night in order to get information about the program. The "registration" forms were outdated, and nobody knew how much the program cost. Forgive me, but aren't these the MOST BASIC pieces of information you can have about your program? At the very least, couldn't you have handouts that have the correct school year on them, and if a price sheet wasn't available, surely you could have your representatives trained to say "Our fees are based on a sliding scale, but the maximum cost would be $_____ per month." C'MON PEOPLE... how hard can it be?

I'm frustrated.

Oh. And I'm cold. Or have I already mentioned that?

New Year, New Beginnings...

I like a new year. All clean and fresh, no mistakes, it's just waiting for your life to appear all over it... well, ok, this thought is starting to sound dumb... but I think you know what I mean.

When my blog crashed in early December I went through major withdrawal. And then it came back in January... and I found I had nothing to say.

I am determined to get back in the writing habit. I might not write much, but from here on out, I am going to post every other day. Maybe more. You never know when the mood to write might strike. But I'd like to get this going again. It's fun to go back and read about all the stressful times... er, FUN times that I've experienced.

Today the project of the day is getting The Princess to the dentist. She has a very small filling or two that need to be taken care of. Wish me luck.

MIA

Yep, I know. I've been MIA, and worse, I've left you without the rest of our vacation pictures, nevermind pictures of The Purple Dragon's room (which have never been posted since last June), pictures of Halloween, not to mention pictures of Christmas. No one knows better than me (I?) about how I've left you in a lurch.

Should I explain why I've left you in such a horrid state? There's not really a good reason, other than I've just been busy with about 100 other things. I'm not sure that they are even more important... I've just been, well... busy.

So busy, in fact, that I neglected to realize that my last post was number 200!

And no, although I hate to disappoint, I'm not going to post the rest of the pictures right now. I will try my best, however, to finish them tonight. I promise! But I've got to watch '24' first.

So guess what's happening on March 30? The Pink Princess is turning SEVEN. We all know what this means, right? King Isepik does. It's time for a BIRTHDAY PARTY! Go ahead and cringe. I know what you're all thinking... "OH NO! Pooooor King Isepik!" I am the self-declared QUEEN of the BIRTHDAY PARTIES... and even when I say "Oh, don't worry... this one will be simple!" it never is. Though, the King would have to admit that some are certainly easier than others. :)

The Princess has requested a Mermaid/Under The Sea party, or perhaps a Garden/Ladybug/Butterfly party, and could be interested in a Luau party, which could be linked to an Under The Sea party. I am really struggling with ideas. The best idea I have so far is the Garden party with a variety of garden crafts (like planting a few seeds, making some kind of garden themed sun catcher, making a stepping stone, etc). But it seems really overwhelming at the moment. She has decided that inviting just girls is OK - which means I'll only have 17-20 kids, unlike The Mane Event which had 30.

So, oh creative ones... what's your take on the situation? I'm not loving any of the ideas I've found online so far, so why don't you help me out?

P.S. I just noticed that some of my posts are currently in a state of 'draft' and are therefore missing from this blog. I will work on fixing them over the coming days. Thanks for your patience. :)

Oh. My. Goodness.

Would somebody please save me?

I am babysitting one of my friends 3-year-old little boy, who is really well behaved... that's not the problem. But he wants to be ENTERTAINED. I am losing my mind.

I do play with my children and provide different, even stimulating, activities for them, but their extension spans are longer and well, they seem to have imaginations.

This child plays with something for about 3 minutes and then he wants something new. And he wants to play with you. Always.

My kids can play by themselves. Even if there is only one of them. He won't even play with The Purple Dragon!

I'm dyin' here.

Guess I never knew how lucky I am.

I'm Back... In More Ways Than One

Wow. It's been almost an entire month since I last posted, and it's all Blogger's fault. When I attempted to 'upgrade' to the new Blogger, everything went wacky, and I lost ALL access to my blog about 2 hours after the upgrade. Apparently it's been fixed (while I've been out of town), but I am back on the OLD Blogger, and frankly, I'm OK with that. Disappointed, because I loved the idea of the new features, but if it's going to cause me to lose my Blog, I'll wait until THEY move me over.

We spent the past week in beautiful Southern California at Disneyland. Everyone had a blast, except for my baby toe on my left foot which is sporting a nasty blister right now. I have TONS of pictures, but we just got back in town and there are a million and a half household type things that must be done before I can post them. But I will! Eventually...

Anyway, this is just a quick post to let you know that things are going to get back on track around here and I can bore you to death with my endless stories about how the Pink Princess and the Purple Dragon drive me nuts. Actually, I told King Isepik that all of my readers were DYING to read my next post because you hang on to my every word with tenacity. :) So please post a comment and tell me how much you missed me! (That'll show the King!)

Our Vacation - Day 7 (and 8)

Let's see... where were we...
Oh yes! The clock was about to strike twelve...

Happy New Year!

Driving, driving, and more driving... that's how we spent the first day of 2007.

We chose to sleep in this morning (all the way to 9 am, woohoo!), and then proceeded to pack up the hotel room and make it out the door by checkout time... which was 12 noon. We weren't exactly fast, and it was probably mostly my fault (oh how I was dragging!), but it's ok... it was the plan. Really.

We were on the road at 12:30 after fueling up the car and making a return pit stop to the hotel so The King could make use of the facilities.

After we had been on the road for about an hour and a half, we saw that a vehicle had rolled over and was off the road. No emergency vehicles were present, so we stopped to see if we could help. In hindsight, I'm not sure why we stopped, we really weren't prepared to help except for the fact that we had a cell phone and a very basic emergency kit. The King made it to the scene before me and put in a call to 9-1-1. The accident had been reported by several other people already, but King Isepik was able to give them a few more details which I assume were helpful. I never saw anything, but the King was not so lucky. I'll spare you the details of what he told me, and I'm assuming that he probably spared me some details of what he saw.

I found a reference to the accident here, and I've quoted the pertinent part below:

A roll-over van crash on I-15 near Hodge Road, about 15 miles south of Barstow, killed two — a 44-year-old woman and an 11-year-old girl — on Monday afternoon.

Four others were injured — two critically, said Officer Greg Smoak of the California Highway Patrol.

Helicopters transported two survivors with major injuries to Loma Linda University Medical Center.

Ambulances transported the two with minor injuries to Barstow Community Hospital.

At around 1:54 p.m. a van carrying a family of Mexican nationals northbound on I-15 lost control and rolled over to the right shoulder near Hodge Road, Smoak said. Five of the six passengers were thrown from the vehicle.

Thankfully the girls were asleep at the time... a blessing... because I was haunted by depressing thoughts for most of the remainder of our trip. We were experiencing a lot of wind, and I just kept hoping that we would be fortunate enough to withstand the winds and not have our vehicle roll over. I just wanted to make it home safe.

The rest of the trip was rather uneventful. A few stops here and there, rough wind, but nothing really noteworthy. We arrived home safe and sound at about 1:00 am (hence Day 8).

Our vacation was wonderful, but it is so good to be home. I really missed my bed!
